Partnership of the Americas Program
The Partnership of the Americas is a unique program that links states and counties in the U.S. with countries in Latin America and the Caribbean. ERVK is a member of this program, and houses the Dutchess County/Dominica Partnership.
ERVK has helped Dominicans train in many different fields here. Furthermore, since 1998, the Partnership of the Americas sponsored Dominican high-school girls to participate in ERVK’s Girls’ Leadership Workshop.
Several Dutchess County Partners visited Dominica to participate in programs on domestic violence, leadership development and attend regional meetings. In July 2001, Poughkeepsie Mayor Colette Lafuente visited Dominica, and a Dominican woman leader made an exchange visit to the US. That same month, a group of four students from Albany Medical College performed a one-month elective in Dominica with local doctors under Partners sponsorship.
