Youth Against Racism

The Youth Against Racism program was inspired by the results of an earlier program called “Children of War”, which brought youth from both sides of international ethnic, religious, and cultural conflicts, to Val-Kill. ERVK founded the YAR program in Dutchess County in 1989.
Youth Against Racism attempts to provide an opportunity for youths to recognize and examine racism in their daily lives. It also strives to empower youths against racism and all forms of discrimination. YAR does this by hosting workshops where high school students can learn, participate, and become proactive in anti-racism education. Under the coordination of the YWCA, the program is ongoing, and operates in most high schools in the United States.
