Enhancing Racial Harmony

ERVK co-sponsored a groundbreaking electronic town meeting, following heightened local racial tensions after the Tawana Brawley case of 1988. This meeting brought forth public concerns over institutionalized racial and ethnic attitudes. In response to this meeting a series of “focus groups” were created in order to promote dialogue in the areas of education, housing, employment, criminal justice, and the media. The program operated successfully for four years. ERVK currently promotes similar programs as a member of the Dutchess County Human Rights Roundtable.
